The Minister of Education has revealed that about 4,000 children on the school roll hardly ever attend and suspects that many of them could be among the young people who join gangs. He further suspects that parents/guardians are not aware that these children are frequently absent from school.
May I respectfully suggest that the Ministry of Education emulates its counterpart in Canada whereby a child's parents/guardian is contacted by 9 am if the roll call reveals that the child is absent. Minister Tim Gopeesingh had an urgent meeting with CoP Gibbs and I would be surprised if this was not suggested since he is Canadian.
