No contracts for safety officers
I have been observing a trend developing in many schools where experienced school safety officers are relieved of their contractual assignment or contracts are not renewed. These officers are now at home and are unaware whether they will be recalled.
While all of this is happening, we are hearing of serious breaches of safety and security at some schools. The most recent occurred at the Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive School in San Fernando, where the police had to be called in to help quell a disturbance.
So, what is preventing the renewal of these contracts? Why aren’t officers being told whether they have a job or not? Is the Minister of Education aware of all that is taking place in the schools? Is he aware of the role of school safety officers?
