Serious issues with doctors on council
I am pleased to note that the Minister of Health has finally appointed a new Medical Council. I still have serious issues with the appointment of senior members of the unionised arm of the doctors to the council and I hope, as do many of my medical colleagues, that this does not detract from the professional agenda of the council. They should not allow their other interests to cause this noble body to be the subject of ridicule and disrepute.
In the past senior members have been responsible for shutting down all the public health facilities in order to improve their remuneration packages. I hope this does not happen again as their union is currently involved in another round of negotiations with the RHAs.
