I eagerly await February 19 when holding a cell phone and speaking/texting while driving will be an offence. Surprisingly, not many drivers are preparing for this day by practising hands-free cell phone use. In fact, I was horrified to see the other morning, a maxi driver with a cell phone in one hand, busy chatting away while consuming a large roti which he had in the other hand.
This crazy man was practising "hands-free driving." So while we legislate about cell phones, what about other activities that cause drivers to have their hands off thesteering wheel and distracted? I refer to activities like eating doubles and roti, putting on makeup and watching DVDs. Perhaps the law should insist that drivers should at all times have both hand on the wheel instead of limiting it to cell phones.
