I want to urge the Government to revisit the concept of multiculturalism. It has been tried in the United Kingdom and is considered by many, including the Prime Minister, David Cameron (during his speech at the 47th Munich Security Conference), to be a failed policy. He argued instead for "a clear sense of shared national identity that is open to everyone."
Such a statement could also apply to T&T, given our diverse racial and religious composition. The idea of multiculturalism seems reminiscent of the abandoned "separate but equal" legal doctrine (Jim Crow laws) of the US which institutionalised racism. I humbly submit, therefore, that multiculturalism in essence is nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing. It is divisive, extremely racist, inevitably doomed to failure and can be of no value to a society such as T&T.
