We are fortunate that the incumbent in the Speaker's chair is a man of integrity and the Opposition in particular should not court his displeasure with unnecessary adventurism or petulance. One notes with sincere appreciation the even-handedness with which the Speaker adjudicates. Offensive language emanating from the Government side is neither being tolerated nor excused. What is most regrettable is that Government members are behaving like rabble sitting in the "pit" and expecting to be excused under the rubric of "cut and thrust."
The Government yet has to learn that its breaches are not privileged and deserve to be condemned.
The Parliament is debased by the performance of those members who sit benefiting from the title of "honourable" by default. MPs must strive to unfamiliar excellence as a duty. Speaker Wade Mark is making his historical mark on a hallowed chamber.
