I was amused to see In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor He­len Dray­ton crit­i­cise At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Anand Ram­lo­gan for be­ing emo­tion­al when he de­scribed the hor­ri­ble plight of kid­nap vic­tims. Ram­lo­gan was in­stru­men­tal in shock­ing our so­ci­ety's con­science when he penned a se­ries of in­ter­views which he had con­duct­ed with kid­nap vic­tims.

At the time, lit­tle or no men­tion was made of the per­son­al dis­tress of the fam­i­lies. Par­ents were torn be­tween trust­ing the An­ti-Kid­nap­ping Squad or fol­low­ing the in­struc­tions from the kid­nap­pers who de­mand­ed a hefty ran­som and threat­ened to tor­ture or bru­talise their loved ones.

I wish to strong­ly rec­om­mend that AG Ram­lo­gan for­wards these ar­ti­cles to Sen­a­tor Dray­ton, be­cause up­on read­ing them they left an im­me­di­ate and in­deli­ble mark on my con­science. I too ac­tu­al­ly be­came very emo­tion­al when I thought about what kid­nap­pers did to their vic­tims. Hang them high I say.
