The Baptist Union of Trinidad and Tobago held its fourth Sports and Family Day on March 30, at Skinner Park San Fernando. This was a great day of fun, fellowship and food. In attendance were the 23 churches, one secondary school and three primary schools that comprises this renown denominational body of Trinidad and Tobago.
Churches came from as far as Port-of-Spain and Arouca in the north to Point Fortin and Marac in the South. This body of Baptist has a very distinct and unique history that sets it apart from the many Baptist groups in the country. Our very name The Baptist Union Of Trinidad and Tobago, speaks to our distinctiveness and to the need for the people of our nation to realise and respect us for who we are.
We intend to work with the media in presenting the necessary information that will/should remove the many misconceptions that now exist in the minds of our nationals. These misconceptions were present in the welcome speech of the Mayor of San Fernando, who in welcoming the assembly to the Borough of San Fernando, made reference to the Spiritual Shouter Baptist. Her reference sought to link the Baptist Union of Trinidad and Tobago to the Spiritual Shouter Baptist. The Baptist Union of Trinidad and Tobago has no affiliation whatsoever with the Spiritual Shouter Baptist churches.
However, the Prime Minister got her information right. Her speech writer did the necessary research. For when she got to the microphone during her evening passby, she was on target. For anybody hearing her speak will believe that she came out of one of churches of the Baptist Union of Trinidad and Tobago on the Moruga Road and that she attended the Fifth Company Baptist Primary School. Well done Prime Minister.
