Well, the one-dayers are well underway and the West Indies has convincingly lost the first two matches.
However, one important ingredient that was very noticeable in these two matches as compared to the way the WI team played in the World Cup is "commitment." Perhaps the boys did not have the firepower to bowl out the Pakistani "strongmen" nor the dexterity to negotiate the Pakistani spinners, but they must be given credit for their positive approach to the game.
The fielding has definitely taken an upward swing for the better. This is something we have not seen in the WI camp for a very long time. Now that that very important ingredient has been restored the guys just have to work a little harder in the batting and bowling departments.
The batting is very crucial in this version of the game since it is either putting up a good score for the opposing side to chase or chasing a total (often an imposing one) to win the match. Taking all ten wickets may not be of great importance in ODIs. So, with the next match today on a very good batting pitch at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, it is best of luck to the new-look West Indies team.
