The captain of the T&T cricket team, Daren Ganga, the management and staff of the cricket board must apologise to the people of the country following their failed bid to be granted an injunction to stop the regional four-day final from being played. What message did they hope to send to our young sportsmen? Are they saying that when you perform badly on the field of play and lose that you should then look for loopholes in the rules to make amends?
Their decision to go to court will in no way help in regional unity. Instead it will create more strife among Caribbean peoples. The first vice-president of the TTCB, Dudnath Ramkeessoon, is quoted in the media as saying that "by going to court the T&T Cricket Board made a point to the WICB." What point? Why didn't the TTCB ask its two representatives on the West Indies Cricket Board to make this "point" for them instead of going to court to do so?
The bottom line is that they have embarrassed the country and have wasted thousands of dollars in legal fees and therefore must apologise or step down from office. Sporting heroes and people holding high offices are seen as role models and therefore whatever they do will impact positively or negatively on the youths in particular. Gentlemen, please do the honourable thing.
