Recently the former chairman of the Police Service Commission was chastised and subsequently dismissed for what was said to be a non-acceptable statement made by him. A former UWI chancellor, in all his educated wisdom, let the facts of the issue elude him. A hue and cry emanated from the general public, all to varying levels of intensity and intelligence. Except for one reporter, no one raised one vital issue. The issue of race was being bandied around as it relates to the Police Service. Why not extend it and face reality as it relates to state companies such as Petrotrin, Trinmar, NP, NGC, TTBS, Cariri, PTSC, PATT, the Public Service etc? We'd all be surprised at what we would find as far as imbalance in the racial divide goes.
Then let's look objectively at contracting companies. Examine their ownership, representative trade unions, geographic locations etc and co-relate this to the composition of their workforces. Let's also look at stores, shops, and restaurants and see what we come up with. The assertion that violence may erupt should we continue to talk race can only come from a stunted mind, especially when our people act and think with some level of education. Please do not push this line of thinking to the masses. If the media have an issue with Mohammed and choose to twist such to their gains, so be it. What do they intend to do now that the new chairman of the PSC has openly stated that he would not let the matter drop? If we intend to solve a problem, we should first acknowledge and understand the nature of such. Unfortunately, we choose to be guided by brawn instead of brain.
