The testimony of Winston Dookeran at the Commission of Enquiry into the 1990 coup attempt reveals that the country owes him a deep debt of gratitude for the sagacious head which he displayed in initiating dialogue under the duress of a gun. While "attack with full force" would have brought an immediate end to the impasse, it would have possibly been at the cost of 300 lives. Perhaps the quiet moral and spiritual strength which Minister Dookeran displayed in bringing about peace and harmony over overwhelming odds could be emulated by some of our loud-mouthed ministers.
