An April 2, 2010, article in the Guardian reported Gary Hunt as stating that invitations had been printed for the opening of the Brian Lara Stadium, the project being almost completed. Therefore it was disturbing to see a report this week of the sorry mess that is the stadium-that ought to have been opened for the 2007 World Cup.
Was this a deliberate attempt by a parliamentarian to mislead the public? The Bird Nest Stadium in China (capacity 91,000) cost, by some reports, US$423 million. The Brian Lara Stadium's capacity may be about 25-30 per cent of that stadium. At a cost per seat the Brian Lara Stadium may be the most expensive stadium in the world. Over to you, Gary Hunt.
