We are writing to tell people about the Trinidad in which the residents of Orange Grove, off Savannah Drive, Tacarigua, reside. It is a Trinidad in which, despite the many letters written to the Commissioner of Police; the Environmental Management Authority; the Arima Magistrate's Court; the Piarco/Tunapuna Regional Corporation; the newspapers, nothing changes. It is a Trinidad in which, no matter how many reports are made to the Arouca Police Station; no matter how many discussions are held within the community; no matter how many times our frustration is conveyed to the offending fete promoters and property owners, the neighbours remain frustrated. It is a Trinidad in which we have been told to try to compromise but we seem to be the only ones compromising and as a result, suffering. It is a Trinidad in which the residents of Orange Grove off Savannah Drive seem to be absolutely powerless.
How has one small group of people acquired so much power? While we have our suspicions, we cannot answer that question with any degree of certainty. These people have bar and dancehall licences approved by the Magistrate without objection because the neighbours are not advised by the police about their applications; having had the licences approved, they seem to have their parties without the requisite police presence; the noise levels are unacceptable but the police do not respond to our complaints; most recently they have erected a "No Entry by Order of the Commissioner of Police" sign on a road leading to the party, which we are certain they have no authority to do. Their patrons are rude and unruly, disturbing the peace when arriving at and leaving the destination.
They have all the power and we have none. We are completely frustrated and disgusted and do not know where to turn. This Trinidad that we live in is not a pleasant place to be. We cannot sleep because of the music and even when the music stops in the wee hours of the morning, we have to deal with the "revving" cars and the noisy, often drunken revellers. Our elderly community is at risk of being unable to leave their homes at night during an emergency due to indiscriminate parking and "No Entry" signs. We want to change this Trinidad that we live in but we need help. We are appealing to the powers that be to help us make the necessary changes to improve our Trinidad. You know who you are and you know who we are and how to contact us. Please help. Frustrated Members of The Orange Grove Residents Association
