I read with deep dismay and disappointment that Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan has been replaced as Minister of Energy. As a energy professional currently abroad, I have looked on closely at the developments in T&T to see how energy could be turned around and once again become a real player on the world stage. What Seepersad-Bachan has been able to achieve in the past year, I have not before seen in either T&T or any other part of the world. She has redefined performance and to now put a virtual non-entity with no proven track record in her place is to destroy any chance of sustainable development.
My question now is: why would a Government that has found such a performing minister, who worked miracles to turn energy around, now want to start banging hammers at its own foundation? T&T has made significant progress under Seepersad-Bachan, but is still in no position to risk sustainability by replacing her with an inexperienced and unknown junior. This is nothing short of self-destructive.
