I am so disappointed and appalled at the level to which the COP election campaign has sunk.Given the extensive mudslinging, in-fighting and mauvais langue, I am left to wonder if the COP is no different to the UNC when it comes to rancour and washing dirty linen in internal elections. Whereas I thought the principle was about commenting on performance, outlining vision and commitment, I am still waiting for Nalini Dial to demonstrate the relevance of her Nicki Minaj remarks.
I am hoping that someone can tell me that Anil Robert's never ending diarrhoea about Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, Joseph Toney and a host of other assorted verbal bile qualifies him for leadership anymore than Vernon de Lima's frivolous fantasy about being able to serve because he has nothing else to do. I have been observing closely that what the COP calls a debate isn't much different from a fist fight and the one who wins is the last man standing.
So I will be very happy when tomorrow comes and the behaviour of the COP is put to the test.Whereas I am expecting the usual election spectacle about campaigning and frustrating the will of the people, I am cautioning all involved that for all intents and purposes, this is not assuming the identity of a democratic exercise but more like crabs in a barrel. They now stand shoulder to shoulder with the PNM and the UNC as a party with no real commitment to behaviour.
