Recent allegations levied by FIFA against Jack Warner have permanently sullied his reputation in my mind. However, I believe Warner has stumbled upon a troubling aspect of Trinidadian politics. To put it in his own words, "when you do good deeds, your good deeds don't go unpunished."Consider Calder Hart. Under Hart, Udecott declared its first-ever net profit after taxes of $16,416,565. Under Hart, Udecott grew almost 200 per cent in one year. Similarly, the Home Mortgage Bank enjoyed a $31 million net profit under Hart's leadership. When Hart resigned, I thought it was for the best and expected swift legal action to be taken against him. But now, over one year later, it has become clear why no action has been taken. The AG and the CoP don't have a case. They have been unable to recall Hart to T&T because, simply put, he and Manning were correct the entire time.Warner has perhaps unknowingly highlighted the perpetual "bite the hand that feeds you" relationship between politicians, the media, and the people of T&T.
