The ini­tia­tive by the Trin­ba­go Uni­fied Ca­lyp­so­ni­ans Or­gan­i­sa­tion (Tu­co) to have the Mighty Spar­row grant­ed The Or­der of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go is in­deed a plau­si­ble and no­ble one. It is in­com­pre­hen­si­ble that an in­di­vid­ual of the Mighty Spar­row's stature has not yet been re­galed with the na­tion's high­est ho­n­our. In fact, it is a fright­en­ing­ly im­plau­si­ble vi­sion that sits in po­si­tions of pow­er and de­nies this il­lus­tri­ous bard what he thor­ough­ly de­serves.

Spar­row, the Shake­speare of our age, has de­fined our "Trin­bag­o­ni­an­ness" more ad­e­quate­ly than any oth­er per­son and now in the win­ter of his life he must be grant­ed this crown­ing glo­ry while he is still in our midst.

Let us be thank­ful and give the "Birdie" what is right­ful­ly his-The Or­der of the Re­pub­lic of T&T.
