It was with indignation that I received the news that a research team from Cambridge University spent two weeks in T&T to tell us that we need to diversify our economy.Since the 1950s, economists, researching oil economies in the Middle East and Latin America, have argued that the tragedy of oil eco-nomies is their propensity to concentrate on grandiose projects and one-pillar economies.All students who enrolled over the past four decades at the Uni-versity of the West Indies in the course Caribbean Economic Problems know that diversification has always been the imperative for T&T. So why are we trying to reinvent the wheel with the Cambridge research team?As I see it, diversification cannot come about overnight.
