In the pre­vi­ous ad­min­is­tra­tion, road paving was used as a vote-catch­ing ex­er­cise. The PP Gov­ern­ment has re­fused to use road paving to lure votes and has con­tin­ued to pave roads through­out the length and breadth of Trinidad. The Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Cu­mu­to/Man­zanil­la, Col­in Par­tap, said that oth­er parts of the South are be­ing paved and the peo­ple of Point Fortin know that their turn will come.

Hav­ing wait­ed for years un­der the pre­vi­ous ad­min­is­tra­tion, they felt that 15 months were enough for this Gov­ern­ment to "fix them up." What would have hap­pened if they had wait­ed their turn? Af­ter all, Un­cle Jack and his min­istry are not sit­ting down on their tails. Every­where you turn they are paving. But the talk was "let us em­bar­rass the Gov­ern­ment be­fore our turn comes." No one can con­vince me that last week's Point Fortin protest was not po­lit­i­cal­ly mo­ti­vat­ed. And guess who they ap­pealed to? Two politi­cians. Ah, pol­i­tics.
