In the previous administration, road paving was used as a vote-catching exercise. The PP Government has refused to use road paving to lure votes and has continued to pave roads throughout the length and breadth of Trinidad. The Member of Parliament for Cumuto/Manzanilla, Colin Partap, said that other parts of the South are being paved and the people of Point Fortin know that their turn will come.
Having waited for years under the previous administration, they felt that 15 months were enough for this Government to "fix them up." What would have happened if they had waited their turn? After all, Uncle Jack and his ministry are not sitting down on their tails. Everywhere you turn they are paving. But the talk was "let us embarrass the Government before our turn comes." No one can convince me that last week's Point Fortin protest was not politically motivated. And guess who they appealed to? Two politicians. Ah, politics.
