Embassy dedicates concert to Bishop
It is with great sadness that the German Embassy learned of the death of Dr Pat Bishop. The embassy conveyed its condolences to her family and to the Lydian Singers.Bishop was one of the icons of this country. Her work in music and culture has been an inspiration for all of us, and her legacy will be more than treasured. Over the years, the embassy has been privileged to work very closely together with Pat Bishop and the Lydian Singers. Her last project, "Winterreise," a song cycle by Franz Schubert, will be performed by two outstanding musicians, tenor Edward Cumberbatch and accompanist Lindy-Ann Bodden Ritch, on September 3 and 4 at the Little Carib in the original German version. At a recent rehearsal of the "Winter Journey," which is the English translation for the song cycle, Bishop had told the embassy that she had fallen in love with this highly important work of romantic recitals when she was still a girl at school and that, since that time, she had hoped to be able to stage the latter in Trinidad. The concert will now be dedicated to her.

Time for patriotic Trinis to back Govt
The declaration of a state of emergency has certainly caught both criminals and the Opposition off-guard.For the past few days the criminal gangs moved with impunity, shooting down people in true Wild West scenes. Security guards as well as innocent limers were the target of marauding youngsters who were no doubt connected with the drug trade. The state of emergency is just part of the Government's anti-crime initiative as the security forces begin to flush out the areas with illegal drugs, guns and ammunition. As was expected, the Opposition PNM panicked when it realised that the People's Partnership Government was prepared to take tough and decisive actions against the criminal elements. As was further expected, Fitzgerald Hinds and Keith Rowley began to extol the virtues of their failed administration which took the unparallelled action to declare a limited state of emergency to contain a former Speaker of the House. The very same PNM which may be accused of supervising the rise in crime over the last decade by both its inaction and by courting some criminal elements has the temerity and impudence to criticise the Government's lethal actions which will redound to the benefit of all the country.Perhaps it must be asking too much for the PNM to repent for its years of failure to meaningfully deal with crime in Trinidad. Its failed National Security Ministers and equally failed crime plans will forever live to haunt the party's political existence. This is a time when all patriotic citizens must rally to the defence of Mother T&T against the criminal elements.

Country must benefit from Pat's legacy
The National Carnival Development Foundation is saddened by the passing of Pat Bishop. The NCDF extends deepest condolences to the family, friends and to all who benefited from her contribution. The loss of this versatile cultural icon must not remain unnoticed. Paying tribute is not enough, we must ensure that our country benefits from her outstanding contribution. When the NCDF was founded in 2003 it was Bishop who delivered the feature address at our first general meeting which has contributed immensely to the strength of our organisation. It is now up to the ministry to ensure that her legacy must not depart with her.May her soul rest in peace.

Hotfoot surely to be missed by fans
The calypso fraternity and Tuco North Zone in particular have lost one of the stalwarts of the art form in the person of John Mc Kenna, known in the calypso world as Hotfoot.Hotfoot was the house MC of the Klassic Ruso Calypso Tent from its inception, and would be fondly remembered by audiences as the man with a thousand suits. He will be sorely missed by his fellow cast members for his jovial spirit as well as his professionalism. Our condolences are extended to his family.

Govt dealing with crime situation
I am so proud of the Government I voted for in dealing with the crime situation seriously.Years ago this should have been done but the then government did not have the guts to deal with the problem. It just dismissed it with another useless crime plan.Well done PP, go all the way and give us back our country. I support you with the state of emergency and curfew.
