I'm dis­ap­point­ed to read of the Prime Min­is­ter's de­ci­sion to "spare" the 14-year-old girl who post­ed the in­fa­mous "threat­en­ing" video from any pun­ish­ment. Al­though I agree with the PM's in­tent to meet with the girl, and I feel com­pas­sion is war­rant­ed in this case, she should face some form of dis­ci­pline. Not in the shape of a fine or prison sen­tence, but rather some form of com­mu­ni­ty ser­vice.

The girl did an ex­treme­ly ir­re­spon­si­ble thing dur­ing a very se­ri­ous time. The coun­try is in the midst of a state of emer­gency, brought about to deal with law­less­ness. Con­sid­er­ing the na­ture of the girl's trans­gres­sion, giv­ing her a "bligh" would send the wrong mes­sage to the pub­lic.
