‘Video girl’ should be made to do community service

I’m disappointed to read of the Prime Minister’s decision to “spare” the 14-year-old girl who posted the infamous “threatening” video from any punishment. Although I agree with the PM’s intent to meet with the girl, and I feel compassion is warranted in this case, she should face some form of discipline. Not in the shape of a fine or prison sentence, but rather some form of community service.

The girl did an extremely irresponsible thing during a very serious time. The country is in the midst of a state of emergency, brought about to deal with lawlessness. Considering the nature of the girl’s transgression, giving her a “bligh” would send the wrong message to the public.
