As a "Trini to de bone," I would really like to know why some people seem to be so upset about the SOE and curfew. Is it because we cannot party, cannot drag-race, or the fact that the idea did not come from the previous administration? What exactly is the problem with this initiative that has been put in place to try to get on top of the crime situation? The last government had many chances and failed to deliver. One of the main reasons that the present government was elected by the majority was because of the spiralling crime rate.
Something different has to be tried. This is the Government's attempt at accomplishing one of the main things that it was elected to do. Do we need a SOE? Some say yes others say no.
Yes, there will be isolated abuses of power by some rogue elements of the security forces, but hopefully these will be dealt with in the appropriate manner. Very often it takes a bitter pill to cure the patient. At the end of the day the population will decide if the administration failed or succeeded, and if required the electorate will take corrective action at the next election. The restriction of movement because of the current measures means nothing to many people. Our freedom has been in decline for the past 20 years, as the criminals enjoy increased freedom. Try having your car shut down any night, any place, and see who comes along to help. When you see him coming, run for your life. Have a safe day.
