I read where Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has given the trade union movement the assurance that when the country returns to a path of growth, their sacrifices over this last year would not have been in vain. She is reported to have said: "Once the economy resumes the desired growth path and our circumstances change, their sacrifices would not go unacknowl- edged."
Is this the same Persad-Bissessar who back in 2007, as quoted in Hansard on February 2 of that year, told BWee retirees and VSEP workers, when their rights were unceremoniously removed due to the closure of BWIA and the opening of Caribbean Airlines, that because of IATA resolutions and so on they are entitled to discount travel and "Government should move to ensure that they continue to enjoy those rights that they are entitled to?"To date no such thing has happened.I rest my case.
