Our Prime Minister goes to Australia to do the simple honour of handing over the chairmanship of the Commonwealth to the Australian Prime Minister, a task which has been done for years by many Commonwealth countries. With travel plans made, no doubt with the input of our "master wizard traveller," who strangely these days, since the FIFA fiasco, is only travelling within the Carib-bean, our "team" was off, although our acting PM nearly missed the send-off because of car problems.
While the PM and her team were Down Under, the Australian airline Qantas encountered an industrial problem and grounded its entire fleet of 126 aircraft for 36 hours, leaving our "distinguished delegation and guests" in a quandary. But so too were many others. Now seasoned travellers would have simply made arrangements with another carrier and take the Pacific route, which is much shorter, to the US and from there to T&T.
Instead, what we have are members of our delegation coming home "one, one" and some complaining about Qantas, as if they have never travelled on our own Caribbean Airlines. Why all the fuss? It's as if they only had three choices: swim back, grow feathers and fly back or remain in Australia forever, although the later might have been a good idea.
