As an ar­dent sup­port­er of T&T sports, I was pleased to see recog­ni­tion be­ing giv­en to some of the coun­try's out­stand­ing sports­men and sports­women at the re­cent Hall of Fame in­duc­tion cer­e­mo­ny.The awards to Bri­an Lara, Dwight Yorke and Rus­sell Lat­apy were al­ways on the cards but it was great to see names like Taffy Critchlow, Richard Nieves, Zeno Con­stance, Jeanette Gior­get­ti-Pan­tin and Vic­tor Gamal­do, all of whom thrilled thou­sands of sports lovers over the years.

These are out­stand­ing cit­i­zens whose lives and con­tri­bu­tions would no doubt have been for­got­ten had it not been for this event, so First Cit­i­zens must be con­grat­u­lat­ed on this ini­tia­tive. How­ev­er, I hope some mech­a­nism can be found to ho­n­our and re­mem­ber the con­tri­bu­tions of all our na­tion­al sports­men and women, many of whom brought tremen­dous joy to our na­tion but who would prob­a­bly have not done enough to be in a Hall of Fame.
