Ridiculous idea to buy a ‘squatters plane’

The information in the press that the Ministry of Housing is thinking of purchasing a light airplane to look for squatters is absolutely ridiculous in this “guava season.” As a professional photographer specialising in aerial photography, I see no need to purchase an aircraft of any kind, as I have used both rotary and fixed-wing aircraft to ply my trade over 40 years. Firstly, most fixed-winged aircraft cannot operate down in valleys where many squatters have built their houses or shacks as the air currents are very unstable and pilots will not fly low in these areas as it is too dangerous. Hence a rotary wing may be used here.

Secondly, the maintenance on any type of aircraft is extremely high. And thirdly, both light planes and choppers can be rented locally by the hour to be used in aerial surveillance of any kind.
