Two young people show me kindness

On the morning of November 15, I was walking down lower Prince Street flagging down St James taxis. A taxi stopped for me but the front seat was already occupied so I told the driver to drive on. To my utter amazement the young man who was sitting in the front seat got out from the taxi and offered me his seat and went to the back of the car. I was astonished by the young man’s thoughtfulness and kindness toward me. It brought back memories of the days when men, young or old, would be so kind and generous to the females.

On that same morning, I found myself in a sticky situation on lower Duke Street close to Edward Street corner. The problem was whether to go home and return the next day to the Social Department as I had forgotten my electoral card or take the risk of asking someone for a phone call to my home. I selected to ask a young woman if she had a phone on her and if she could make a call to my home. After explaining to her my problem and offering to pay for the call, the young woman politely refused payment and went ahead and made the call. I publicly thank those two young people for their kindness shown to me, a total stranger, and to wish them a bright and prosperous 2012.
