Politicians play ole mas with fashion
Last year Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was high in praise for the local fashion industry and gave the undertaking that she will support it where at all possible. Taking the PM’s support of the industry literally, and not to be outdone, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan quickly jumped into the fray to keep the industry alive by putting “silk” high on the fashion agenda. Well hot on his heels, and not wanting to be left out, was Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, who thought that his contribution to this new fashion spree should be the “tie” issue.
AG Ramlogan, in what he alone saw as a master stroke, quickly outfitted himself in a Chinese outfit—in the style of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon—and showed up in no other place but the Senate to prove once and for all that he is the “master designer.” I take comfort in knowing that Carnival is a few weeks off and the ole mas “done start.”
