I am guessing you slept all day after

After 50 years of independence, the citizens of T&T have attained maturity. Gone are the days when the wool was pulled over one’s eyes and the public did not stand up for their rights. There are some in society who are of the view that the law can be bent to the extent that the public permits. This is especially so in the case where a monopoly exists or appears to exist. When cable TV was introduced to the country, several popular channels were available. However, with a change in name these channels came with an additional cost and regularly increased rental. Then came late payment charges although no bills were supplied. To say that one’s bills are constant would be erroneous. Added to this there are random charges which, when queried by mail, remain unanswered even if sent by registered mail. Should one terminate the service by registered mail there are charges applied after the date of termination.

If the modus operandi of the cable company cannot be investigated by a state regulatory body it may be left to the subscribers to take a course of action. There are many complaints which go unheeded. Maybe the time has come for subscribers to withhold rentals for, say, a month, to begin with. Late payment charges will be added whether you pay on time so it does not matter. This could be the first step to have a consumer watch where public opinion will influence the cost of living and unjust behaviour. The days of shoddy treatment and service could be a thing of the past. No longer will attempts be made to hold the country to ransom for the benefit of a few when there are those who could exist on less than  $300 a week with no one to represent them.
Justice must prevail.
