Open letter to Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs: I believe that you and Deputy Police Commissioner Jack Ewatski should get out of your contracts, return to your country and save yourselves further embarrassment. Right now you have no one defending you. Nearly everyone in the country is criticising everything you do. Mr Commissioner, we are not ready for change as yet, as you can see for yourself. We are not interested in your 21st century pilot project initiative, even though initiative is the key to accomplishment. We may be ready in 3025 but not at this moment. Do you notice that with everything that you try to implement for the benefit of the Police Service there is always a problem and a lot of criticism within the Police Service, the police association and the citizens of this country?
We are a Third World country and we prefer to stay that way for now. We are not interested in becoming First World at this time. We are not ready for that kind of transformation that you want to force on us. We are not ready to change our mindset and our way of thinking, and also our way of living as yet. We have to learn to adjust our attitude before we can go to another level. The president of the Police Service Social and Welfare Association predicts that your plan will not work; we don't know, maybe he is right. You did not tell us it is a long process and many procedures to put these plans together.
You see, Commissioner Gibbs, you do not understand us. We are buried and suffocating in the grave of mediocrity. So please forgive us for not cooperating and supporting your 21st century initiative. We are not bad people. We are kind and loving people. It's just that we are accustomed to mediocrity; it's in us. Maybe your vision is not what we want at this time. And without a vision the people perish. Do you notice that you are under scrutiny all the time? So the best thing that you and your deputy can do is to get out of the contract that the Government has given you and go back to Canada and leave us alone. We can do this by ourselves. We have a lot of bright eyes and bushy tails in our country who can do this job. You know what I think? I think you got set up, Commissioner Gibbs. But one thing I am sure of is that we are not a backward country or people, or corrupt in anyway. The only thing is that we are not inspired by your 21st century pilot project initiative. Thank you for trying.
