Open let­ter to Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Dwayne Gibbs: I be­lieve that you and Deputy Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Jack Ewats­ki should get out of your con­tracts, re­turn to your coun­try and save your­selves fur­ther em­bar­rass­ment. Right now you have no one de­fend­ing you. Near­ly every­one in the coun­try is crit­i­cis­ing every­thing you do. Mr Com­mis­sion­er, we are not ready for change as yet, as you can see for your­self. We are not in­ter­est­ed in your 21st cen­tu­ry pi­lot project ini­tia­tive, even though ini­tia­tive is the key to ac­com­plish­ment. We may be ready in 3025 but not at this mo­ment. Do you no­tice that with every­thing that you try to im­ple­ment for the ben­e­fit of the Po­lice Ser­vice there is al­ways a prob­lem and a lot of crit­i­cism with­in the Po­lice Ser­vice, the po­lice as­so­ci­a­tion and the cit­i­zens of this coun­try?

We are a Third World coun­try and we pre­fer to stay that way for now. We are not in­ter­est­ed in be­com­ing First World at this time. We are not ready for that kind of trans­for­ma­tion that you want to force on us. We are not ready to change our mind­set and our way of think­ing, and al­so our way of liv­ing as yet. We have to learn to ad­just our at­ti­tude be­fore we can go to an­oth­er lev­el. The pres­i­dent of the Po­lice Ser­vice So­cial and Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion pre­dicts that your plan will not work; we don't know, maybe he is right. You did not tell us it is a long process and many pro­ce­dures to put these plans to­geth­er.

You see, Com­mis­sion­er Gibbs, you do not un­der­stand us. We are buried and suf­fo­cat­ing in the grave of medi­oc­rity. So please for­give us for not co­op­er­at­ing and sup­port­ing your 21st cen­tu­ry ini­tia­tive. We are not bad peo­ple. We are kind and lov­ing peo­ple. It's just that we are ac­cus­tomed to medi­oc­rity; it's in us. Maybe your vi­sion is not what we want at this time. And with­out a vi­sion the peo­ple per­ish. Do you no­tice that you are un­der scruti­ny all the time? So the best thing that you and your deputy can do is to get out of the con­tract that the Gov­ern­ment has giv­en you and go back to Cana­da and leave us alone. We can do this by our­selves. We have a lot of bright eyes and bushy tails in our coun­try who can do this job. You know what I think? I think you got set up, Com­mis­sion­er Gibbs. But one thing I am sure of is that we are not a back­ward coun­try or peo­ple, or cor­rupt in any­way. The on­ly thing is that we are not in­spired by your 21st cen­tu­ry pi­lot project ini­tia­tive.
