I thank my Member of Parliament, Dr Lincoln Douglas, for mobilising a much needed beautifica- tion drive in Phase 2, Linton Gardens, D'Abadie, last Saturday. Douglas came to my house while on a walkabout on Thursday. I used the opportunity to share several concerns about the unkempt public spaces in the community, and I am sure that other residents would have done the same. I was therefore pleasantly surprised when, two days later, Douglas returned with several volun- teers and workers, beautifying the roadways, the park, and the hilly stretches. For the first time in a long while Linton Gardens heard the sweet sounds of weed-whackers, chainsaws and other landscaping implements.
This prompt action is indeed appreciated, since the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation and other agencies have failed to maintain these public areas for several months, which puts residents in danger. For example, the park in the community is unlit and usually overgrown and attracts its share of shady characters at night. I hope that this action by Douglas will continue well into the future and extend towards other infrastructural improvements in the community.
