US Pres­i­dent Barack Oba­ma has made an of­fer of US$30 mil­lion to fight crime in the re­gion but I have seen no re­sponse to this of­fer by re­gion­al lead­ers. I ven­ture to sug­gest that Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar should get to­geth­er with the Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ters of the oth­er Caribbean coun­tries and for­mu­late a joint ap­proach to con­front the run­away crime sit­u­a­tion which is dom­i­nat­ing the na­tion­al life of the cit­i­zens of the Caribbean basin.

This would be a won­der­ful op­por­tu­ni­ty to show that T&T is se­ri­ous about solv­ing the crime and il­le­gal drug prob­lem which threat­ens to sub­merge us. Ac­tion please, Madam Prime Min­is­ter.
