I became ill last week and was hospitalised at the Sangre Grande Hospital, where I spent seven days. That time allowed me to observe at close range the operations of that institution. From admission to discharge my treatment left nothing to be desired. I was totally impressed by the dedication of all the staff-medical, nursing, administrative and support-which they showed to all the patients at the ward to which I was assigned. The coordination required to run a hospital is beyond belief.
It requires the timely and individual intervention in medicating each patient (no two patients have the same problem and in dispensation of medication, conduct of blood-testing, pressure-testing, feeding etc one size does not fit all). For what it revealed about the dedication of all the staff I am almost tempted to say I enjoyed my stay, and, unlike the Hilton, room service was thrown in. My sincerest thanks to Dr Jhagroo, the caring medical doctors, the nursing staff, the laboratory staff, the administration and support staff and all those at the Sangre Grande Hospital for their care in a culture of caring.
