Since Sunday night my Facebook news feed has been covered with links to an article written by George Bovell (III) in response to another article that Maco magazine's feature writer, Adrian Pinheiro, wrote, titled "High and Mighty."
So I decided to look for the Maco article to give it the benefit of the doubt. Well, I was indeed shocked by what I read. It was completely distasteful and they should be embarrassed to have had that printed. I'm not sure what sort of writer Pinheiro thinks he is and I'm certainly no expert but it seems to me that perhaps he should find a new job. In my rare meetings with Bovell, he has always come across as a very humble and tame-hearted man. And judging by his response to the article, it obviously irked greatly.
Race, background or what job the grandfather of a local athlete held, have nothing to do with the long hours of hard work that these talented athletes put in. Or the dedication they have for their sport and, obviously, their country.
What else can I say other than Maco should feel absolutely ashamed and apologise for trying to tarnish Bovell's image. An image he tries so hard to maintain as an incredible T&T athlete.
To George and the other thousands of athletes, pay no mind to the small-minded people we have in this country.
Continue working hard in achieving your dreams; the rest of us are proud.
