Is it legal for loud music to be played on Maracas Beach? I am not alluding to promotions set up by legitimate advertising agencies. I am referring to young men last Sunday who arrived at about 3 pm and boldfacedly set up speakers on stands and a boom box near the lifeguard hut and bathrooms and proceeded to "treat" us to various soca tunes.
Now I have nothing against sweet soca; I am a Trini to the bone. But come on, Sunday is possibly the one day of the week where families and friends can get together to share some good food, a few drinks and a few laughs in peace. The thing is, I have seen these young men on more than one occasion and I overheard them telling the unfortunate beachgoers who happened to be closest to them that they "always" play there on a Sunday. Who gave them permission to turn the beach into a fete?
Maracas is so fabulous on any given day. Cool breezes, sumptuous shark and bake, nice waves and the sweet sound of squealing children as they splash in the icy water. Why spoil this tranquillity with loud music? Please stay away and play it in your home. We don't want it. (Oh by the way, I took a little survey and everyone was against it.)
