The last general election saw the country uniting to remove the PNM government from power. We had set high hopes and expectations for the PP coalition to address critical social issues such as escalating crime, high food prices, corruption, unemployment, healthcare, constitutional reform and sustainable development. Two years have passed and all those issues seem to be getting worse and no real attention is being paid to them except on a political platform.
When will constitutional reform be a reality and the power be put into the hands of the people? Why is the Government afraid of allowing the people to have a real say in this country's governance? We are one of the richest countries, per capita, in the world and yet we have very little to show for it. I shudder to think what will become of us two years from now.
