The last gen­er­al elec­tion saw the coun­try unit­ing to re­move the PNM gov­ern­ment from pow­er. We had set high hopes and ex­pec­ta­tions for the PP coali­tion to ad­dress crit­i­cal so­cial is­sues such as es­ca­lat­ing crime, high food prices, cor­rup­tion, un­em­ploy­ment, health­care, con­sti­tu­tion­al re­form and sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment. Two years have passed and all those is­sues seem to be get­ting worse and no re­al at­ten­tion is be­ing paid to them ex­cept on a po­lit­i­cal plat­form.

When will con­sti­tu­tion­al re­form be a re­al­i­ty and the pow­er be put in­to the hands of the peo­ple? Why is the Gov­ern­ment afraid of al­low­ing the peo­ple to have a re­al say in this coun­try's gov­er­nance? We are one of the rich­est coun­tries, per capi­ta, in the world and yet we have very lit­tle to show for it. I shud­der to think what will be­come of us two years from now.
