Wrong economic signal being sent

Published:

Why is it so difficult for Minister of Finance Winston Dookeran and Central Bank Gover- nor Ewart Williams to be on the same financial page? Don’t they talk to each other? How come one is saying there is no economic slump and the other is saying there is a recession? What is it? Who to believe?

These two key financial players are sending the wrong signal to investors. That’s not the way to engender confidence. So why do the media have to always get the blame when officials are quoted—or put their foot in their mouth? It is either the media “misinterpreted” what was said or they “didn’t mean it so.” The time has come to stop using the media as a scapegoat... or even ramgoat.
