In Rad­hi­ca Sookraj's ar­ti­cle in the June 4 T&T Guardian about a fash­ion show at the Petrotrin Sports Club, Pointe-a-Pierre, the or­gan­is­er of the show, Therese Ce­cil Chungis, is quot­ed as say­ing that "not much is be­ing done to pro­mote south fash­ion," and that they "want­ed to bring fash­ion back to South."

Fash­ion, how­ev­er, is very much alive in San Fer­nan­do (as op­posed to "south") and it will nev­er leave San Fer­nan­do. I op­er­ate a very suc­cess­ful fash­ion agency in San Fer­nan­do. My present en­rol­ment of trainee mod­els for the class of 2012 is 22 young women, who will take to the run­way by Sep­tem­ber. Ac­tu­al­ly, two of the fea­tured mod­els in that ar­ti­cle are prod­ucts of our Au­gust va­ca­tion ses­sions.

Last month we co-or­di­nat­ed and pre­sent­ed five fash­ion shows in San Fer­nan­do: Pe­nal Ro­tary Club Fash­ion Show, Les Ef­forts Li­ons Club Fash­ion Show, Cheshire Home Fash­ion Show, Rape Cri­sis So­ci­ety Fash­ion Show and Fight Against Can­cer.

Al­so in May, we par­tic­i­pat­ed in two pageants-Miss Fyz­abad and Miss Bor­ough of Point Fortin. One of our top de­sign­ers from San Fer­nan­do, Dex­ter Jen­nings of Dex­ter Jen­nings Con­cept Stu­dio, was a par­tic­i­pat­ing de­sign­er in the re­cent To­ba­go Fash­ion Week­end.

On June 22 and 23, Deron Attz, of Sim­ply Smooth Pro­duc­tions, will be pre­sent­ing San Fer­nan­do Fash­ion Week. The list goes on and on. Fash­ion in San Fer­nan­do is alive, and al­though as one of the old­er pi­o­neers of fash­ion in the south­ern city I do ap­pre­ci­ate all con­trib­u­tors, I take ob­jec­tion to any al­lu­sion that fash­ion is not pro­mot­ed in south, or that fash­ion needs to be brought back to south.
