I have a slight­ly dif­fer­ent take on the De­nesh Ramdin af­fair. Per­son­al­ly, I would not have done it my­self but there are two im­por­tant fac­tors here. The writ­ten mes­sage it­self was quite be­nign and Sir Vi­vian Rich-ards had been vi­ral­ly crit­i­cal of Ramdin ear­li­er in the se­ries. Ad­di­tion­al­ly, Richards him­self once stormed in­to the press box in An­tigua in search of a for­eign jour­nal­ist with whom he was up­set. Have we con­ve­nient­ly for­got­ten about that in­ci­dent?

Then there is Michael Hold­ing. Once again he held him­self up as an an­gel of virtue say­ing he would nev­er do some­thing stu­pid like that be­cause he lives by his prin­ci­ples and his chil­dren and grand­chil­dren will al­so live by these prin­ci- ples. Well, please tell us, Mikey, which one of these lofty prin­ci­ples al­lowed you to kick down the stumps in New Zealand in 1981?
