It is necessary as a citizen and resident of Santa Cruz to congratulate the Sports Company of T&T on the number of playing fields targeted for rehabilitation refurbishment and upgrade within the next six months. It is with anguish that I note that the Brian Lara ground at Cantaro Village has not been mentioned as this ground has been an ongoing concern to the residents of Santa Cruz and more particularly the youth of the area as both their football and cricket training and participation have suffered because no improvements have been made to the grounds.
I well remember Anil Rob-erts, the Minister of Sport, when he was a radio announcer carrying on the crusade to have the grounds completed and during his tenure he has not lifted a finger to push the ground to a finish. Within three weeks of his appointment as Minister of Sport I made it my duty to pay my respects to the minister and reminded him of his crusade for our grounds but I got the usual response.
We have a good ground in Santa Cruz but we have no accommodation, no toilet facilities, no changing rooms, not even a standpipe where players can refresh themselves. Organisers of events on the grounds have to rent tents, tables and chairs to accommodate people attending sporting events on the grounds.
Come on, Anil, it is time for you to grow up. You have been brought up in a Christian home and I am sure that Al and Pat have made sure that you were brought up in the graces of Jesus and that you well know that you have been put on the Earth to serve mankind. We in Santa Cruz would even ask Peter to make a novena for you so as to remind you of the training that a good Christian house and a good Catholic school have given to you.
Come on, Anil, do the job that you have campaigned for.
