It is nec­es­sary as a cit­i­zen and res­i­dent of San­ta Cruz to con­grat­u­late the Sports Com­pa­ny of T&T on the num­ber of play­ing fields tar­get­ed for re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion re­fur­bish­ment and up­grade with­in the next six months. It is with an­guish that I note that the Bri­an Lara ground at Can­taro Vil­lage has not been men­tioned as this ground has been an on­go­ing con­cern to the res­i­dents of San­ta Cruz and more par­tic­u­lar­ly the youth of the area as both their foot­ball and crick­et train­ing and par­tic­i­pa­tion have suf­fered be­cause no im­prove­ments have been made to the grounds.

I well re­mem­ber Anil Rob-erts, the Min­is­ter of Sport, when he was a ra­dio an­nounc­er car­ry­ing on the cru­sade to have the grounds com­plet­ed and dur­ing his tenure he has not lift­ed a fin­ger to push the ground to a fin­ish. With­in three weeks of his ap­point­ment as Min­is­ter of Sport I made it my du­ty to pay my re­spects to the min­is­ter and re­mind­ed him of his cru­sade for our grounds but I got the usu­al re­sponse.

We have a good ground in San­ta Cruz but we have no ac­com­mo­da­tion, no toi­let fa­cil­i­ties, no chang­ing rooms, not even a stand­pipe where play­ers can re­fresh them­selves. Or­gan­is­ers of events on the grounds have to rent tents, ta­bles and chairs to ac­com­mo­date peo­ple at­tend­ing sport­ing events on the grounds.

Come on, Anil, it is time for you to grow up. You have been brought up in a Chris­t­ian home and I am sure that Al and Pat have made sure that you were brought up in the graces of Je­sus and that you well know that you have been put on the Earth to serve mankind. We in San­ta Cruz would even ask Pe­ter to make a nove­na for you so as to re­mind you of the train­ing that a good Chris­t­ian house and a good Catholic school have giv­en to you.

Come on, Anil, do the job that you have cam­paigned for.
