The frequent injury to West Indies cricketers is a matter of concern. It has reached the point where it is now embarrassing and one wonders whether selectors are having the benefit of reports of medical fitness prior to selecting players. Indeed, is past medical history part of the selection process? If not, it now seems incumbent.
We have heard of recommendations from various quarters that psychologists and psychiatrists should be appointed to counsel and offer advice to our teams. However, I am wondering whether the physiotherapist has not been too hasty in declaring players "unfit." After all, our past great players seem never to have been visited by anything resembling the spate of injuries with which our current players seem to suffer, of late.
Is it a dietary problem which has been visiting the region? We need to examine.
