It is now evident that child abuse is becoming rampant in T&T. The recent alarming statistics revealed by central police must cause great concern to every right-thinking citizen and should even agitate all of us to take the necessary steps to stamp out these disgusting acts of violence on our young children. The police alone cannot address this scourge and sadly when they intervene the life-scarring damage has already been done.
As civilised human beings, let us all embrace the old African saying that "it takes a village to raise a child" and love one another and shoulder the collective responsibility of caring, nurturing and protecting our precious children from evil and perverted adults.
In our neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces, everywhere, we should always be vigilant crusaders for our children. Let's be our brother's keeper and watch protectively and notify the police or other relevant authorities of these hideous crimes forthwith. The disgusting facts confronting us now are that some fathers and mothers are becoming their children's worst enemy. It is time now for all of us to stand up and sound the alarm.
