We should be grateful for Dwayne Gibbs and Jack Ewatski for giving up their comfortable life in Canada to come to our Third World country to try and improve our crime situation and make it a safer place for us all. It seems from day one our "patriotic" citizens, including government, opposition and union members, have been very critical of the modus operandi of these two Canadians when past commissioners of police still could not get a handle on crime.
Gibbs and Ewatski brought dignity and social standing to our demoralised Police Service by implementing the 21st century policing initiative, reduced corruption and the drug trade. Would all their hard work now go down the drain? What has Sgt Anand Ramesar, president of the Police Service Social and Welfare Association, done so far?
The pressure would now be on the new Commissioner of Police and we would expect him to function twice as much, with no "probation," and perform miracles. The Government has pledged its full support, stating that no measure will be spared against those who seek to terrorise and brutalise our citizens. Isn't this what they have been saying all along??So why is it so different now?
I don't blame Gibbs and Ewatski for finally coming to their senses and saying good riddance to all this mess. Heaven help us all. Over to you Jack.
A Chong
