Best way to reward athletes set up an Olympic fund
The talk has started by our government and others on how best to reward our athletes on their return from the London Olympics. We applaud their overall performance while admitting that the best is yet to come; so in this vein I hope that all rationale thinking would be put into their “reward”. In my opinion the best reward would be one that benefits the present group of Olympic athletes as well as those to come.
The present government should take the initiative and set up an Olympic fund, with an agreed sum to be inputted every year, by whichever party is in power. An appointed board would be responsible for disbursement of funds for training and development of our present and future athletes, as admittedly we do not have the facilities or coaches available locally, to help our athletes attain their ultimate potential.
So, before the idea becomes ingrained of rewarding them with 1m each as done with the footballers on their return from Germany, I urge our government to be smart and think collectively. I salute you team T&T on our best showing at an Olympic ever!
I Alexander
