Now with all the hype and pa­tri­o­tism that lo­cals have been ex­ud­ing with the olympics for our ath­letes, I can't help but won­der why when it's all over, they will prob­a­bly re­sort to be­ing the dis­cour­te­ous beasts that some have be­come as is ev­i­dent with their ac­tions on the road­ways es­pe­cial­ly in the Wood­brook St James ar­eas with the new traf­fic plan.

I wouldn't be sur­prised if some of them refuse to slow down to al­low Lalonde Gor­den or Kel­ly Ann Bap­tise in­to the flow of traf­fic if the sit­u­a­tion aris­es, but over the past week no­body wav­ing more flag than them. Why can't we keep that pa­tri­ot­ic spir­it all year round,not on­ly on the roads but every­where we go. Ac­cord­ing to 3 Canal's song, what's so hard in say­ing "Morn­ing neigh­bour, morn­ing" and just ex­er­cise the Tri­ni spir­it that used to be the en­vy of the rest of the world?

For the traf­fic plan and gen­er­al­ly the im­prove­ment of our at­ti­tudes, we need to be more lov­ing, and gen­uine­ly car­ing to­wards each oth­er and show cour­tesy where it is due. We are cel­e­brat­ing fifty years of In­de­pen­dence and ap­pa­rant­ly giv­ing the im­pres­sion to the reast of the world that we are mov­ing back­wards as a na­tion. As the lyrics to a pop­u­lar kaiso col­lab­o­ra­ton goes "now is the time - to show some uni­ty now is the time - to help hu­man­i­ty Yes - NOW IS THE TIME"
