NIS pension is paid to people who have made weekly or monthly contributions (via NIS payments) for their entire working life. In some cases this can be as many as 42 years. These are people who have positively contributed to society, regardless of their job classification. NIS pensioners have toiled their entire lives towards nation-building.
Senior citizens pension is paid out to people who have attained the status of senior citizenship, (over the age of 60-65). Within this bracket we have senior citizens who have laboured their entire adult life, and also the ones who did not. Whether the senior citizen pension is an entitlement, grant, or whatever the current administration wants it called, it does not change the fact that a career criminal, former policeman, homeless person (vagrant), retired labourer, teacher or deportee will all be receiving this pension.
The amount of old-age pension an individual receives should not be based on whether they receive NIS pension or not, as this was paid for by the individual. People have made payments to this pension for their entire working life. The senior citizen pension should be the same for everyone because they're all senior citizens. This should not be adjusted for those who receive NIS pension. It is greatly unfair that a person's old age pension is based on their NIS pension.
Simply, what the current administration is saying is that a citizen who did not contribute anything to society (work) or a NIS pension, will receive more old age pension than a person who has positively contributed to society. This will result in everyone receiving an equal amount of money when they have entered the senior citizen bracket, whether your were lazy, a criminal, or hardworking. I wonder which path I shall choose?
