Con­grat­u­la­tions are in or­der for the Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion or the Town and Coun­try Di­vi­sion, whichev­er is re­spon­si­ble, for or­der­ing the de­mo­li­tion of the il­le­gal struc­ture that was be­ing built at the cor­ner of East­ern Main Road and St Vin­cent streets in Tu­na­puna. These heart­less peo­ple were us­ing up the re­serve to ex­tend their busi­ness and in the process forc­ing pedes­tri­ans al­most un­to the street. There are many oth­er ex­am­ples of this along the cen­tral shop­ping area of Tu­na­puna, the most no­to­ri­ous be­ing the one that was re­cent­ly gut­ted by fire next to the mar­ket. Now, not all busi­ness­es do that, for ex­am­ple, the Mid­town Phar­ma­cy al­lows for the space in front, so too do Pay­less, First Cit­i­zens, Cat­walk, De­tour and oth­ers.

There are, how­ev­er, those which have con­struct­ed "tem­po­rary" an­nex­es which have turned out to be per­ma­nent struc­tures. Not on­ly do these ob­struct free pas­sage but they are in fact il­le­gal. And they are an eye­sore. They make Tu­na­puna look so di­lap­i­dat­ed, jum­bled and down­right ug­ly. I'm sure that the mem­bers of the Cham­ber of Com­merce would not con­done law­less­ness. The must in­sist that these il­le­gal ad­di­tions be re­moved. It will be to the ben­e­fit of all, own­ers and cus­tomers alike, as an at­trac­tive shop­ping area would draw more crowds. The Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion must con­tin­ue to be ever vig­i­lant.
