Congratulations are in order for the Regional Corporation or the Town and Country Division, whichever is responsible, for ordering the demolition of the illegal structure that was being built at the corner of Eastern Main Road and St Vincent streets in Tunapuna. These heartless people were using up the reserve to extend their business and in the process forcing pedestrians almost unto the street. There are many other examples of this along the central shopping area of Tunapuna, the most notorious being the one that was recently gutted by fire next to the market. Now, not all businesses do that, for example, the Midtown Pharmacy allows for the space in front, so too do Payless, First Citizens, Catwalk, Detour and others.
There are, however, those which have constructed "temporary" annexes which have turned out to be permanent structures. Not only do these obstruct free passage but they are in fact illegal. And they are an eyesore. They make Tunapuna look so dilapidated, jumbled and downright ugly. I'm sure that the members of the Chamber of Commerce would not condone lawlessness. The must insist that these illegal additions be removed. It will be to the benefit of all, owners and customers alike, as an attractive shopping area would draw more crowds. The Regional Corporation must continue to be ever vigilant.
