I consider an auditor to be the last bastion of protection for the ordinary man against white collar bandits and lawlessness in general; you know, the guard that guards the guard. So, an auditor suddenly confesses (without remorse) that he has been derelict in his duty (he doesn't think so) and has let down the poor man.
Instead of his peers crying shame and asking for his head, they are all checking themselves on whether they can be found out on their own little white lies. They have all gone into procrastination mode saying that they waiting on this or that report or this or that body to take action.
But the problem with so called professionals is that they each draw an invisible line of morality saying that no one should cross it forgetting one thing: that the line is invisible and each body has their own line. It seems that in Trinidad especially, there is no more Hippocratic oath for doctors or any sort of professional oaths that govern professional behavior.
It all seems to be: do it till you get caught and make sure that you know someone who is doing it too; that way you get to go aside and spend your ill-gotten gains quietly. But where are the protectors of the age? Where are those bastions of human/equal rights and justice and poverty and workers rights etc. I'll tell you- "they eating ah food."
I have two questions for the auditor in question. Who else have you done that for? Did you do it for free?
