My dad, Arnold Lalloo, was suffering from renal failure. Every time he heard the doctors mention the word "dialysis" he would think it was the end of the world. He was hospitalised often, could not eat certain things, had leg pains, etc.
Thankfully, he only had to do one session of dialysis and I would like to thank the medical team at the National Organ Transplant Unit at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for co-ordinating everything so quickly for his renal transplant so he didn't have to go through the ordeal of being on dialysis.
This team is very, very special. I found their Web site on the Internet and made an appointment with a social worker, Ms Samuel, to discuss the possibility of renal transplant for my dad. The social workers at the unit are very pleasant and are trained perfectly to deal with patients with these health conditions.
I was my dad's kidney donor. The unit carried out every test possible to ensure that I would remain in good health. Everything was co-ordinated perfectly before, during and after the surgery. The treatment we received was beyond excellent. The doctors and nurses were so caring.
To this team-Dr Leslie Roberts, Mrs West-Wooding, Mrs Johnson, Ms Samuel, Ms Spencer, Dr Chad Bisambar, Dr Samuel and his team of doctors, the nurses at Hibiscus Suite and High Dependency Unit-I would like to say thank you for giving my dad a new life. I pray that more patients with renal failure could undergo renal transplant under this team and I know that they will feel as blessed as us after meeting such caring people.
